CIP stations (Clean-In-Place) are devices designed for automatic cleaning and sanitation of stainless steel fermentation tanks for beer, cider or wine, without the need for their disassembly. They are a

CIP stations and their usecommon part of breweries and the food industry, where strict hygiene standards must be observed. This system allows for the effective removal of beer residues, yeast and other impurities, while minimizing downtime and increasing production efficiency. However, the use of CIP stations is much more versatile and in all sectors of the food industry such as: production of milk and dairy products, production of juices and non-carbonated drinks, production of ice cream, production of confectionery, bakery industry, production of spirits, and others... This assistant has also been found indispensable in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

How a CIP station works:

1. Closed cleaning system: CIP stations are connected directly to the fermentation tanks using hoses, pipes and valves (flaps).
2. Automated cleaning cycles: The cleaning process takes place in several steps, which may include:

  • Water flushing to remove loose dirt.
  • Application of cleaning agents (alkaline or acidic solutions) to remove organic residues and mineral deposits.
  • Thorough rinsing with water to remove cleaning agents.
  • Disinfection to eliminate microorganisms. Disinfection can be provided with a disinfectant or by steam injection.

3. Solution regeneration: CIP stations allow the reuse of cleaning solutions, thus reducing chemical costs.

Main components of a CIP station:

Chemical and water tanks: For storing cleaning and rinsing solutions.

  • Pumps: Circulate the solutions through the tanks.
  • Sensors and control unit: Monitor the temperature, flow rate, and concentration of chemicals to ensure an efficient and safe process. Depends on the type and equipment of the specific CIP station.
  • Pipes and valves: Enable the transfer of cleaning media between the CIP station and the fermentation tanks.
  • Shower heads or nozzles: Located in the tanks and ensure uniform dispersion of cleaning solutions. The shower head is part of the stainless steel container used by the CIP station.
